Wisconsin Trail Assail Procrastination Run - Race Recap
The Wisconsin Trail Assail Procrastination Run is an event I tackled back in 2020, and while my memories of the production details are limited (it was a wild year, after all!), I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to race at all during such a chaotic time. This trail run offered a solid mix of challenge and beauty, with one notorious feature: Killer Hill.
Conquering Killer Hill
If you’re up for a challenge, this course has plenty! Killer Hill earned its name for a reason - half marathoners climb it four times! Whether you’re tackling the 5K, 10K, or half marathon, you’ll feel the burn as this hill makes its appearance multiple times throughout the course.
Despite its name, Killer Hill wasn’t all bad. The trail system is wide, well-groomed, and offered enough space to pace myself on the climb. By the fourth lap, though, it certainly tested my grit and determination!
The Course Layout
The course weaves through scenic trails, with plenty of room to maneuver. At the finish, runners emerge from the trail for a final sprint across the open field to the finish line, which is a fun and satisfying way to end the race.
This race strikes a nice balance between being challenging and beautiful. The hills are no joke, but the natural beauty of the trails made the hard work feel worth it. The crisp air and peaceful surroundings were a welcome reprieve from the chaos of 2020, and I appreciated how the course showcased Wisconsin’s natural charm.

Race Production and Swag
While I can’t speak much to the overall production of the event since I ran it back in 2020, I can say that the custom finisher medal was a great touch for all half marathon finishers. The event organizers did a good job making the race feel rewarding, even during a time when so much was up in the air.
Final Thoughts
The Wisconsin Trail Assail Procrastination Run is a solid choice for anyone looking to challenge themselves on a beautiful trail course. Killer Hill lives up to its name, but it’s also what makes this race memorable. If you’re into trail running and enjoy races that push you to dig deep, this one’s worth checking out.
