4 Races that Should Be On Your List for 2025

It’s almost 2025, and if you’re anything like me, you’re already thinking about next year’s races. Whether you’re aiming for a PR, looking for a fun weekend getaway, or just want to experience an epic run, I’ve got a few suggestions you need to add to your list:

Vacation Races Mount Rushmore Half Marathon (Keystone, SD)

I tackled this race in 2024, and let me tell you - it’s no joke. The first eight miles are pretty much all uphill, but the views of Mount Rushmore are 100% worth the grind. Trust me, you’ll feel like a total badass crossing that finish line.

Vacation Races always puts on a fantastic event, and the Black Hills are perfect for a post-race adventure. My husband and I had a blast exploring Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park spotting bison, and soaking in all the nature. If you’re into races with killer scenery and a touch of history, add this one to your list.

Surf City Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K (Huntington Beach, CA)

I ran the Surf City Half Marathon back in 2017, and it was such a great experience that I’m heading back in 2025 for the full marathon. The course is flat and fast, the ocean views are stunning, and the energy from the crowd is unmatched. Plus, the expo is a blast - you’ll find all kinds of fun vendors and free goodies.

After the race, you can celebrate by relaxing on the beach or grabbing some food at one of the nearby spots. Whether you’re running your first race or your fiftieth, this one’s a guaranteed good time.

Vacation Races Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon (Townsend, TN)

I ran this race back in 2023, and it’s one of my favorites. The course winds through super-cute neighborhoods, and the locals come out to cheer you on, which gives the whole thing a small-town, feel-good vibe.

Townsend, known as the "peaceful side of the Smokies," is a great place to chill after the race. There’s so much to do nearby - hiking trails, waterfalls, wildlife sightings - it’s the perfect excuse to turn your race weekend into a mini vacation.

runDisney Wine & Dine Weekend (Orlando, FL)

If you’ve never done a runDisney race, 2025 is your year to make it happen. I haven’t run Wine & Dine in person yet (thanks, COVID), but I did the Princess Half Marathon Weekend in 2022, and it was pure magic.

Wine & Dine happens during EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival, so you can imagine how fun the post-race party is. The course takes you through the Disney parks, the medals are gorgeous, and it’s just an all-around magical experience. Whether you’re a Disney superfan or just want a race that’s big on fun, this one’s a no-brainer.

Let’s Plan for 2025!

There’s nothing better than having a few exciting races on your calendar to look forward to. Whether you’re chasing a goal, exploring a new place, or just out for the adventure, these races are sure to make 2025 unforgettable.

What’s on your race list for next year? Let me know - I’m always looking for new ideas! Happy running!
